چکیده

This paper provides a survey of searchable, peer-to-peer filesharing systems that offer the user some form of anonymity. We start this survey by giving a brief description of the most popular methods of providing anonymous communication. These include the Ants protocol, Onion routing, Multicasting, MIXes and UDP address spoofing. We then describe a number of implemented systems based on one, or a combination of, these methods. Finally, we discuss possible attacks on the anonymity of these systems and give examples of particular attacks and defences used by the systems we describe.

P2P Network Trust Management Survey

Peer-to-peer applications (P2P) are no longer limited to home users, and start being accepted in academic and corporate environments. While file sharing and instant messaging applications are the most traditional examples, they are no longer the only ones benefiting from the potential advantages of P2P networks. For example, network file storage, data transmission, distributed computing, and co...

A Survey of Peer-to-Peer Security Issues

Peer-to-peer (p2p) networking technologies have gained popularity as a mechanism for users to share files without the need for centralized servers. A p2p network provides a scalable and fault-tolerant mechanism to locate nodes anywhere on a network without maintaining a large amount of routing state. This allows for a variety of applications beyond simple file sharing. Examples include multicas...

Responder Anonymity and Anonymous Peer-to-Peer File Sharing

Data transfer over TCP/IP provides no privacy for network users. Previous research in anonymity has focused on the provision of initiator anonymity. We explore methods of adapting existing initiator-anonymous protocols to provide responder anonymity and mutual anonymity. We present Anonymous Peer-to-peer File Sharing (APFS) protocols, which provide mutual anonymity for peer-to-peer file sharing...

An Analysis of GNUnet and the Implications for Anonymous, Censorship-Resistant Networks

Peer-to-peer networks are a popular platform for file sharing, but only few of them offer strong anonymity to their users. GNUnet is a new peer-to-peer network that claims to provide practical anonymous and censorship-resistant file sharing. In this paper we show that GNUnet’s performance-enhancing features can be exploited to determine the initiator of a download. We also present an efficient ...

Dealing with Cheaters in Anonymous Peer-to-Peer Networks

As anonymous peer-to-peer file sharing networks transition from intellectual curiosity to societal reality, their long-term viability is seriously threatened by cheaters. A cheater either consumes resources without producing them (a freeloader), or advertises valuable content, but ultimately delivers that which is useless (a spoofer). In both cases, the cheater realizes some benefit from his ac...
